The Country Cold Store was established in October of 1969. It is the brain child of Mr. James D. Lewis, who got the idea to start the business while working at Grenada Beach as a Storekeeper/Purchaser.

During this period, Mr. Lewis saw and seized the opportunity to get involved in trading. He decided to sell chicken feet, as there was a great demand for cheaper poultry products in his area, and the opportunity to purchase at an attractive price had arisen. Delighted to have a buyer to purchase his chicken feet, the supplier of whole chickens to the hotel offered James a 27 cubic foot freezer on a ‘pay later’ plan.

James’ business career was born. Soon the chicken feet were not enough to fill his customers’ needs, so he bought chicken backs to supplement them. The name of his supplier was ‘The Cold Store.’

As demand grew by leaps and bounds, James promoted his products and expanded his customer base by selling at the crossroads and junctions throughout St. David. The need was great and business boomed. There was no looking back; freezer after freezer was added, resulting in a wholesale network across the island and extending to Carriacou.

Today, Country Cold Store is widely acknowledged as the leading importer and distributor of frozen poultry parts in Grenada. Additionally, the Company sells pork and pork products, beef and beef products, goat, lamb, frozen vegetables, French fries and other products such as Cheese, Lentil peas, Sugar, etc.

The Company provides a delivery service island wide via Refrigerated Trucks, Insulated Trucks and Panel Vans. Service to Carriacou & Petite Martinique is provided by Inter Island Schooners.

In 2011 a Mini Mart was opened to provide a service outlet for the company’s retail customers.
